Things you can type: convert it to webp turn this png into a webp

Smaller, and still transparent

WebP keeps an alpha channel, so a logo or icon with a transparent background converts cleanly. The default quality is 82, which is hard to tell from the original for photographs and screenshots alike; lower it for a smaller file.

Every modern browser displays WebP. The exception is the occasional desktop program or upload form that still refuses it — for those, convert to JPEG or keep the PNG.

Make it smaller still

Set a maximum width or height to shrink the dimensions too; a screenshot from a high-resolution display is often twice the size it is ever shown at. The image converter has every option in one place.

The answer shows the original and new sizes side by side, so you can see what the conversion bought before you download. Re-encoding also leaves camera and location metadata behind.

Questions

PNG to WebP: common questions

Does WebP keep transparency?

Yes. Transparent areas of the PNG stay transparent in the WebP.

Is it lossless?

It uses WebP’s lossy mode at the quality you choose (82 by default), which is what makes the file small. For a pixel-perfect copy, keep the PNG.

Is my image uploaded?

No. It is decoded and re-encoded by your browser.
